முன்பொருமுறை பண்டாசுரன் பிரமன், திருமால் மற்றுமுள்ள தேவர்கள் அனைவருடைய உடலுள் புகுந்துகொண்டு, அவர்களுடைய வீரியத்தைக் கவர்ந்து கொண்டு அவர்களை வலிமையிழக்கச் செய்தான். இதனால் பண்டாசுரனை ஒடுக்க எண்ணிய இறைவன் காஞ்சியில் சோதிபிழம்பாய்த் தோன்றி, குண்டமமைத்து நெய்யை நிரப்பி, தத்துவங்களைத் தருப்பையாகவும், முக்குணங்களை வேதிகைகளாகவும் கொண்டு அம்பிகையோடு வேள்வி செய்தார். இவ்வேள்வியில் பிரமன் முதலான அனைத்து உயிர்களையும் இட்டார்; அனைத்து உயிர்களும் தீயில் ஒடுங்கின. அப்போது பண்டாசுரன் எதிரே வந்து நிற்க, அவனையும் தீயிலிட்டார். பின் அத்தீயானது இலிங்க வடிவமாகி 'மயானலிங்கம்' என வழங்களாயிற்று. என்பது இத்தல வரலாறு.
